Contact Your Lawmakers:

This is our Rube Goldberg method for contacting your State and Federal representatives.

The functional steps are really quite simple:

(1) Click on the link below and determine your candidates by merely putting in your ZIP Code.

http://www.congress.org

For some of you it will also be necessary for you to determine your ZIP+4 code by entering in your full address.  This is sometimes required because your ZIP may be divided by 2 or more Congressional Representatives.  In the example below you see a "*" by  the Federal Representatives (McCotter, Conyers and Dingel); the State Senators (Hunter and Anderson) and the State House of Representatives (Leland, Constan, Dillon and LeBlanc).

So if you have no Representative categories with a "*" you can proceed to the next step.  If there are categories with a "*" then you need to fill out your complete address information so it can isolate the correct candidates for your specific location within the ZIP code:

Once this is completed, hit "GO" and an accurate list of your Representatives will appear.  In this example notice that there is a single representative listed for each position, with the exception of the 2 Federal Senators.  Notice also that it has determined the ZIP+4 code for your specific voting address.

(2) Next you will want to go to each link in order to determine how each representative can be contacted.  Some may have e-mail addresses whereas others may have links to web forms.  Before you do this I would suggest opening up a new document file using Word or some similar program.  I would suggest saving the program on your Desktop so that it is always handy.  But, whatever works for you.  As you go to each representative you may minimally want to do the following.  Enter the name of each representative and then place the contact information below each respective name:  Now in my example file (below) I have just copied the web address and pasted it to the right of each representative.  I prefer this method because I can find everything about each representative by merely going to their main web address.  After you have completed this test each copied link to make sure it takes you to the correct representative

Note that you can also call each of your Federal Representatives once you know who they are by calling the following numbers:

U.S. Senate switchboard:
202-224-3121
U.S. House switchboard:
(202) 225-3121

.Federal Senators:

Carl Levin

Debbie Stabenow

.Federal Representatives:

John Dingle

(3) Now that you have this information on file it should be very fast and efficient for you to send your viewpoints to the appropriate representative depending on what bill or issue needs to be addressed.  I should also mention that sometimes you may want to contact a representative outside of your voting district.  In these cases you can go to congress.org and quickly find whoever you need to contact:

So let's give it a try by attacking the "Law of the Sea Treaty" which the Federal Senate is scheduled to ratify by the end of October.  I have provided the following text which you can cut and paste into the email or web form for each of your two Federal Senators:

Subject: Do Not Ratify the "Law of the Sea Treaty"

Dear Senator,

I have recently been informed that he Executive Branch of the U.S. government is trying to railroad Senate ratification of the Law of the Sea Treaty. A Senate vote is being pushed for by the end of October.

This is an issue far bigger than illegal immigration and threatens to deal a fatal blow to U.S. sovereignty. Your urgent attention and action is needed right now!

Please read the latest August Review commentary by Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy In Media:

Senator Vitter Leads Assault On UN’s Sea Treaty
http://www.augustreview.com/news_commentary/treaties/senator_vitter_leads_assault_on_un’s_sea_treaty_2007101077/

I am urging you NOT to ratify the "Law of the Sea Treaty."  In any case I want to know how you intend to vote and I want to understand your rational, regardless.

I am also writing to let you know we have had it with the Senate's attempts to pass the Illegal Alien Amnesty Bill.  In June 2007 so many American citizens called to stop this awful legislation that we literally brought down the phone lines.  Please get this through your head.  Over 70% of the American people do not want any form of Amnesty for Illegal Aliens.  We want the "No Match" letters sent immediately and we want these 8 million law breakers to go where they belong: back home.  As far as I am concerned, every Illegal Alien deported is another job opening for an American worker.

I am also tired of how many of our federal representatives are betraying the American people when it comes to Amnesty, the North American Union and Legal Immigration.  I am against all of these proposals.  I want to see a 20 year moratorium on both Legal and Illegal Immigration.  I am getting tired of seeing you trying to hide such legislation as amendments as you continue to attempt to represent your Multi-National Corporate backers.  If you are not going to represent the American people we are going to kick you out of office.

I would also like to know your positions on each plank of the "New Agenda for America."  I think this is an agenda that is in bad need of implementation in this country and I hope I can find a Presidential candidate that supports each of these planks.

NEW AGENDA FOR AMERICA: Preliminary Planks
Help Influence the 2008 Presidency
[More info: http://www.newagecitizen.com and click on topic]

(1) Universal Health Care for All American Citizens
(2) A 20-year moratorium on all immigration into the United States
(3) Legal Marijuana for all Adults and Medical Patients
(4) An immediate reversal to the Offshoring and Inshoring of American Jobs
(5) A strict enforcement on issues of Separation of Church and State
(6) An immediate move from so-called Free Trade Agreements to Bilateral Trade agreements
(7) A major R&D project to bring energy independence to the United States and the World through recycling, reuse, ending hyper-consumerism and investing in the development of sustainable energy sources (e.g., solar, photovoltaic, wind, geothermal)
(8) No further ownership of US Assets (businesses, homes, ports, stock exchanges) by foreign governments or individuals!
(9) Replace the Federal Reserve with a People's Reserve which allows public oversight

Thank you for listening to me.

(1) Go to your first senators web link.

Carl Levin (D) http://www.congress.org/congressorg/bio/?id=310

When I go to the web form I select the "Compose Your Own Letter" radio button and click the "Next Step" button.  Note that path to the letter may vary over time.  Now cut/paste the text (above) into the letter and send it off to both Federal Senators.  Of course you can modify it in any way you like to personalize it.  See how easy that was?  Here is a screenshot of my letter to Carl Levin:

Next I go through the same process for Debbie Stabenow and I am done.  And it took less than 5 minutes to commit this small act of activism.  You should now check your email to make sure a copy of the letter has been sent to you.   Next time all you will have to do is open up the document on your desktop and will be able to complete this task in half the time.  Note that you will want to update the information after each November election.

Now New Age Citizen would like to find better ways to do this.  We would like to somehow track the number of NAC activists that actually send the letters.  Obviously NumbersUSA has one of the best mechanisms for doing this.  But as we have recently discussed, they are not addressing "The Law of the Sea" issue.  Certainly no one can expect them to cover every issue.  But my hope is that you will use this to send NAC-sponsored letters as well as letters of your own.  Writing letters is just one of the acts of "eternal vigilance" that is required to rejuvenate this once-great republic.  Thanks for your participation.
