As early as 1989 my publication, New Age Patriot (1989 - 1997), supported the following positions regarding Drug Policy:
(1) Marijuana should be legal for all adults throughout the world.
(2) Needle exchange programs should be set up to reduce the spread of the AIDS virus by stopping the sharing of dirty needles.
(3) Broader forms of drug liberalization should be considered in order to deny organized crime and terrorist organizations access to lucrative revenue streams.
(4) All Non-Violent Drug Prisoners should be granted clemency and a Works Progress Administration (WPA) program needs to be instituted to provide dignified work at living wages. The WPA was an integral part of Roosevelt's New Deal.
If these positions had been implemented:
(1) The sick would have had access to Marijuana without breaking the law
(2) 750,000 innocent Americans would not be getting busted every year for mere possession of Marijuana.
(3) Millions of innocent men, women and children would not be dying of AIDS today
(4) "911" may never had occurred if we began to end drug prohibition and therefore taken the profit out of the drug market. Thousands of adults and children would have been saved from unnecessary injury and death in Afghanistan and Iraq.
(5) Millions of families would not have experienced economic oppression due to the loss of their primary breadwinner to AID, violence or drug related crimes.
Well I think the last 15 years have validated my proposals. It is just a shame that none of them have been fully implemented as of yet. What is really sad is how resistant both Democrats and Republicans continue to be regarding all of these proposals. Yes, there has been some movement but it has not been significant.
"New Agenda for America" supports all of these positions along with one more real specific proposal: the MRP (Marijuana ReLegalization Policy) Project. To reduce it to one syllable I refer to this as the "Merp" project. Just to give you a sense of what "Merp" is all about I have appended a short description below:
The initial phase of the MRP Project will be geared towards gathering the endorsement of the following Re-Legalization Guidelines, by both individuals and organizations:
"The most important aspect to any reform in Cannabis law needs to minimally allow non-commercial cultivation, by adults above the age of 18, to be done without any form of government taxation or interference."
I will be writing a lot more about the "Merp" Project in the future. But the concept is so simple that these two short essays will tell you just about all you need to know:
