U.S. Military aid under Plan Colombia has been sold to the U.S. public as part of the war on drugs. In actuality, the forces under Montoya’s command are engaged in a counter-insurgency war against leftist guerillas. The aid is directed to troops taking offensive action against guerillas in areas targeted for coca fumigation. Evidence shows that these offensives often happen in conjunction with paramilitary attacks. Robert Zoellick, a top foreign policy advisor to President Bush, was recently quoted as saying, “We cannot continue to make a false distinction between counter-insurgency and counter-narcotics.”

06/06 (Th) National Day of Direct Action to Insure access to Medical Marijuana   National Day of Direct Action June 6th
Push back the DEAs expanding war on Americans!
Keep medical marijuana safe and legal!
Thursday, June 6, 2002 at noon at your local DEA outpost. Click here for a list.

What is it?
It is a nation-wide day of action to push back DEA attempts to re-criminalize medical cannabis! On or after June 6th, 2002 the DEA will attempt to shut down dispensaries now legally providing medical cannabis to patients in California. To respond, activists in cities across the nation will use creative, non-violent tactics to disrupt DEA offices and post their own "cease and desist" orders at DEA outposts. Through this action, we will build an "emergency response" network of committed activists to escalate our resistance to the Federal Governments expanding war on democracy and patients in need of safe access to medical marijuana.

31ST ANNUAL MIDWEST MARIJUANA HARVEST FESTIVAL   THOUSANDS EXPECTED IN DOWNTOWN MADISON, WISCONSON

The 31st Annual Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival intends to inform the public of the harms caused by the prohibition of Marijuana. The event will present and produce rational alternatives to our current failed drug policies, provide a forum for a wide range of reform, civil rights, harm reduction, and political organizations, and produce a festive atmosphere in celebration of the Cannabis plant.

Speakers at this year's extended two-day event will include several nationally known drug policy reform activists: Elvy Musikka, one of seven
surviving patients who receive 300 pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes each month from the federal government in a program that was closed to new
participants in 1992; Steve Silverman, the director of Flex Your Rights (www.flexyourrights.com), a Washington D.C. based educational organization
that provides information and workshops on protecting individuals' liberties from overzealous law enforcement officials; and Valerie Gremillion, from the Global Dialog Project (www.global-dialog.org), who will address constitutional concerns revolving around last year's USA Patriot Act.

In addition to these and other national speakers, a variety of Wisconsin activists will cover subjects including: efforts to pass medical marijuana
legislation, local drug policy reform; and emerging drug treatment alternatives. Various state and local political officials and candidates will also address the crowd at the two stages event.

Along with speakers, live bands and dj's will entertain attendees with a wide variety of music genres. Activist workshops will be held concurrently over both days of the event. A wide range of cultural activities will also be offered at the festival.

The two-day festival will conclude with the traditional march up State Street to the State Capitol at 3:00 pm on Sunday.
