31st Annual Ann Arbor HASH BASH
April 6th 2002, Saturday, HIGH NOON
on the DIAG University of Michigan

The 31st Annual HASH BASH will begin promptly at on at HIGH NOON on The DIAG of The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  Follow the "Diag" (sidewalk going across main campus at State and N. University).  Speakers talk from steps of the Library. The main event lasts one hour due to time limits imposed by the University.  But people congregate for hours after the main event.  Many eventually end up at Dominic's for munchies.  There is no charge as this is a PROTEST. (Bring Signs, they always end up on the front page of the paper) While this is a smoke-in (one of the nations oldest) Smoking on campus may result in arrest.

Map and Itinerary for the 31st Annual Hash Bash

{Note: Numbers refer to points on the map}

[1]  We will start the day at 11am with a candle light vigil at the Federal Building at Liberty Between 4th and 5th Streets. You are encouraged to bring candles and Protest Signs as there will be no PA!!!  We will gather there to protest the Federal Governments (e.g., FBI, DEA) involvement in the killings at Rainbow Farm.

[2] From the Federal Building we will walk to where the Hash Bash takes place.  This is in front of the UofM Library Building which is South of the "Diag" [a sidewalk that runs diagonally across UofM's Main Campus].  The Hash Bash runs promptly from Noon until 1:00 PM.  One of the unusual phenomenon surrounding the Hash Bash is that the crowd congregate well after the formal event is over.

[3] Many of the activists go to Dominic's after 1:00 PM for Sandwiches and Beer . . .

[4] At 4:20 PM activists will be gathering in Wheeler Park which is located on the corner of Depot and N. 4th Ave.

Here is the latest from Adam Brooke (03/05/2002):
The Toyes have said they would play for us if we took care of the expenses.  Well, I haven't yet raised the money to cover it (CAN YOU HELP?) but I am going to confirm with them in the next few days.  They were one of Tom and Rollie's favorite PRO POT bands, and to have them play on the Diag while we remember Rainbow Farm should be very moving.
Buddha Fulla Rymes have also written a song which they have agreed to come perform on the Diag.  They have also said they would help with the PA system.  Many thanks to them.
On Friday there will be some sort of teach-in at the University.  It is still being put together so the details will follow soon.
Speakers expected:
Chef Ra - High Times Columnist this will be his 13th consecutive HASH BASH
Tim Beck - Detroit Coalition for Compassionate Care
Dan Salano - President, Police Officers for Drug Law Reform
folks from Rainbow Farm
folks from Michigan Marijuana Movement who will explain the next PRA ballot initiative
more still to be confirmed.
There are rumors that the City of Ann Arbor is not granting vending permits, claiming that the city is reviewing the policy.  Make sure you get a denial in writing.  I would not recommend vending on city property without a permit, but if they won't give you a permit what are you too do?
We do however favor 1st Amendment vending.  If your products are covered under the 1st Amendment we welcome you to vend anywhere you want.  You may run into law enforcement who have not heard about the 1st Amendment and vending covered by it, so consider yourself warned!
Also we are willing to promote your products from the stage if you provide us with product to give away as gifts to our speakers and special guests.
If you have any questions please ASK! While we are busy we will get you a response.
