03/13(We) Rainbow Farm Trial and Protest 1:30 PM

The lawsuit brought by Bill McMasters of Taxpayers United, et.al., will be heard in the Michigan State Court of Claims in Lansing at 1:30 p.m. This suit charges  Cass County Persecutor ( yes, I meant that) Scott Teter, Medical Examiner Robert Knox, State Attorney General Jennifer Granholm, and the entire 7 member Cass County Board of Commisioners with multiple violations of the Freedom of Information Act and the Michigan Open Meetings Act in the wake of the Rainbow Farm Labor Day killings. Jacob and I will be there, if only to hear how Teter explains how he came to be in unauthorized possession of all copies of the State Police report. That should be truly creative. We also plan to leave here early enough to demonstrate in front of the courthouse beforehand.

U.S. Military aid under Plan Colombia has been sold to the U.S. public as part of the war on drugs. In actuality, the forces under Montoya’s command are engaged in a counter-insurgency war against leftist guerillas. The aid is directed to troops
ing offensive action against guerillas in areas targeted for coca fumigation. Evidence shows that these offensives often happen in conjunction with paramilitary attacks. Robert Zoellick, a top foreign policy advisor to President Bush, was recently quoted as saying, “We cannot continue to make a false distinction between counter-insurgency and counter-narcotics.”

Afro-Colombians comprise 40% of the population of Colombia yet are displaced by war at a far greater rate than any other population in thecountry.  Why?
Human Rights worker Dalia Mina Valencia, a founding member of National Process of Black Communities in Colombia, will offer her perspective as a health care worker and activist in a region which has experienced massacres, terrorism and displacement. She will discuss the influence of the US government and multinational corporations in the region. She will also speak about how Pacific coast Afro-Colombians envision their future, and what are the most viable options for ending the war.

05/01 (We) Protest/Attend Meeting that Falsely links Drugs and Terrorism rather than Prohibition and Terrorism 10:00 AM
Noon
The Empowerment Zone Coalition (EZC) will host a special training on Narco-Terrorism on Wednesday, May 1. Samaritan Health Center, 5555 Conner (between E. Warren and Harper). To register or for more information on the workshop, contact EZC at: 313-921-9403. The registration fee is $5.

If you've got the time this might be an interesting meeting to attend, observe or protest. Keep in mind that your taxes are going to support this group which I contend is perpetrating a gross falsehood (e.g., Drugs and Terrorism). It would be interesting to know how much money all of these groups receive for efforts that a growing number of taxpaying citizens no longer believe or support.

06/06 (Th) National Day of Direct Action to Insure access to Medical Marijuana   National Day of Direct Action June 6th
Push back the DEAs expanding war on Americans!
Keep medical marijuana safe and legal!
Thursday, June 6, 2002 at noon at your local DEA outpost. Click here for a list.

What is it?
It is a nation-wide day of action to push back DEA attempts to re-criminalize medical cannabis! On or after June 6th, 2002 the DEA will attempt to shut down dispensaries now legally providing medical cannabis to patients in California. To respond, activists in cities across the nation will use creative, non-violent tactics to disrupt DEA offices and post their own "cease and desist" orders at DEA outposts. Through this action, we will build an "emergency response" network of committed activists to escalate our resistance to the Federal Governments expanding war on democracy and patients in need of safe access to medical marijuana.

CIA INVOLVEMENT IN CRACK COCAINE TRAFFICKING
EXPOSED IN "AGENTS AND ASSETS"
Los Angeles Poverty Department Dramatizes a Congressional Hearing

September 2 2002- The Los Angeles Poverty Department (LAPD) and Urban Community Visionaries of Detroit, present LAPD's "Agents and Assets" for four
performances only at The First Unitarian-Universalist Church on Thursday through Saturday October 17- 19 at 8:00pm  and Sunday October 20,  at  4:00 pm.

Author Al McCoy will be present Saturday evening.

The First Unitarian-Universalist Church of Detroit  is located at

4605 Cass Avenue, corner of Forest. Tickets: general admission is  $5 or pay what you can. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. For reservations and
information call 313 / 671-3583.

The Los Angeles Poverty Department is a 17 year old, award winning performance company based in skid row Los Angeles.  "The Los Angeles Poverty Department, despite the homeless status of many of its members, has thrived for years from it's downtown outpost and continues to offer theater that's often stunning in its honesty and lacking in pretension." L.A. WEEKLY, Pick of the Week.

Agents & Assets, acclaimed in its Los Angeles performances in January 2001,
is re-mounted in Detroit with a combined cast of Los Angeles and Detroit
residents, from communities that have been severely impacted by drugs and
drug policy. Seven members of LAPD will be in residence in Detroit for one
month rehearsing with local cast members and conducting community workshops
and outreach activities.

With Agents and Assets LAPD addresses the U.S. government's escalating war on drugs. The text is a hearing transcript from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the committee charged with the oversight of the government's intelligence agencies. The occasion of the March 18, 1998 hearing is the CIA Inspector General's report denying allegations made in a 1996 series of articles in the San Jose Mercury News, that  alleged  CIA involvement in crack cocaine trafficking. The entire Agents & Assets script is taken from the hearing transcript.  Congressmen / women and CIA Inspector General, are  played by on the ground veterans of the crack epidemic.  The lives of the cast members have been radically impacted by crack, either because formerly addicted or simply because they live in communities that
have been devastated by drugs and the drug war. "... a theater piece  born
out of detailed transcripts might be somewhat dry -- hardly the stuff of
high drama.  With Malpede at the helm, however, provocative seems more the
operative word."  DOWNTOWN NEWS, Victoria Looseleaf, January 8, 2001

Agents and Assets' director John Malpede says, "The 'War on drugs', as the name clearly states, imposes a military solution on a  public health and social problem, and in doing so, turns our own citizens into 'the enemy' and then proceeds to victimize our citizens and their communities." Agents & Assets invites its audience to consider the actions of the U.S. Government, whether it be in a distant third world country or in downtown Detroit.

Partially funded by grants from The Nathan Cummings Foundation, NEA Theater, and  The Animating Democracy Initiative, with Funding from the Ford
Foundation.

01/18 (Sa) Michigan Marijuana Movement (MMM420)
Changing the Marijuana Laws in your town.
4:20 PM Greetings, On Sat. Jan 18th, 2003 at 4:20 p.m. there will be a meeting at Cuby Jacks Resturant. Cuby Jacks is located, 6527 S. Cedar St, Lansing, Mi. Phone- 517-882-1707.
This meeting will bring together several groups that will discuss and plan for a new Ballot Initiative for 2004. The new initiative will give us the chance to pass several ballot proposals through-out the state.
This is a new approch, and we feel that this may be our best chance for marijuana reform in Michigan.
First, we need you to get a copy of your city or county Charter and bring it to the meeting. What we are hopeing to do is to have initiatives across the state, in some areas maybe Hemp, other areas, Medical, low priority for possesion with fine, and no record. We feel that by haveing several initiatives, it will give us a chance for at least some to pass.
Please bring notebook and pen. This meeting will be a workshop, no frills or speaches, just work.
Listed below are some things to think about
1. Getting people 18 to 21 registered to vote
2. E-mail, long mail data base
3. Key leaders in the areas where we want to do the initiatives
4. Advisory board for MMM420
5. Petition teams to help in areas that need it.
6. working together with other groups.
7. Ideas to implement our plan.
8. Getting Green Party, and other political parties involved.
9. Any ideas that will further our abilities to be sucessfull.
This could be the largest meeting of reform groups in Michigan to address these issues.
We hope you will be able to attend, and please let us know if you can make it, by sending your name and county you live in. Cuby Jacks has good food and there are motels close by if you choose to stay the night. Some of the groups and people who will be there.
MMM420, Drug Policy Forum of Mi., Cannabis Action Network, Adam Brook of the Hash Bash, Michigan Norml, Rainbow Farm, and several other groups and individuals. If you want to change the Marijuana laws in your town, now is your chance to do it. Please forward this to people who you think may be interested in what we are doing, the more support we have the more we can get done. I look forward to meeting everyone, and hope that 2004 will be a change for the better.
