Issue #006

The American Psychiatric Association has in their seal the portrait of Dr.
Benjamin Rush. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He wrote

"Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come
when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship... the
Constitution of this Republic should make special provision for medical
freedom as well as religious freedom." - Benjamin Rush M.D.

* Overview

Professor Hemp accuses Bush of Domestic Terrorism and dedicates a song to Rainbow FarmWelcome and please take a few minutes to reflect on the state of our liberties on this Indepence Day - July 4th, 2003.  It has been about 4 months since the last eLetter and I certainly falling short of my once a week goal.  I think I will try for something more reasonable, like once a month.

Since the last eLetter Ed Rosenthal was essentially sentenced to one day served and released with a $1,000 fine for assisting the City of Oakland's Medical Marijuana facility.  The absurdity of this "kangaroo court" was not lost on the public and left the jurors feeling absolutely betrayed by this plutocratic system of justice.   The only reason the Bush Administration flinched was because they saw that making  a martyr of Ed Rosenthal would not only inflame the activist community, but the general public as well.

Although this is a victory, many other similar cases are pending (e.g., Judy and Lynn Osburn) and we are also loosing ground on other fronts.  The passage of the "Rave Act", introduced by Sen. Biden (Dem, VT) into the "Amber Alert" bill, is certainly one of the more significant losses.  Within weeks of passage this legislation basically derailed a Hemp event in Montana and it compelled a Wisconsin Hemp event to relocate to Canada.  This "Rave Act" is an unacceptable impediment to First Amendment gauruntees and cannot be allowed to stand.

I will be quite busy for the next 8 weeks, however, I will make every attempt to move the Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy (MRP) Project forward.  At the same time I want to begin looking beyond Drug Policy issues as there are many "iceburgs" ahead for both Americans and citizens throughout this planet.  To this end I am making my news reading available to you in a portable Microsoft Word format (a free reader will be made available for those without Word).  These are what I consider to be important articles on a range of topics  -- including Cannabis reform.  More information, on reading and printing these "New Age Citizen News" documents,  is provided later in the message.  I encourage all everyone to read a couple editions and send me you feedback.

We are also looking for your donations to help keep NAC move forward with real meaningful drug policy reform.  For just $19.95 you can become a NAC member and recieve the NAC Multimedia CD (more information below).  One of things we would like to purchase is Adobe Acrobat so the "NAC News", which we provide for free, can be distributed in the universal *.pdf format -- that alone is over $200.00.

The last thing I would like to bring up is another smaller project: to get a handle on who is financing the Drug Reform movement.  My first attempt at this has been to request assistance from the Threshold Foundation (Soro's group) but so far they have ignored my requests -- something that won't surprize most activists.  DPA and Soros have exhibited an incredible arrogance towards the activists community in the past.  I'm hoping that there are existent articles or websites that have already collected this information.  If any of you have found articles that shed light on the money souces of any reform orgainizations (NORML, DPA, MPP), please send me an email.  The goal of this mini-project is to make activists aware of who are the major backers of Drug Reform both in the United States and around the world -- and bring some accountability to their progress or lack thereof.

We at NAC applaud everyones efforts, however, we also want to see American Adults growing their own Marijuana no later than 2012.  What we don't want to see is an institutionalization of the Drug Reform movement which ultimately turns the "Road to Re-Legalization of Cannabis" into the "Never Ending Story."  If you project the recent Zogby Poll Data from 1986 and 2003, then we should reach a 50% majority no later than 2003.

* Current New Age Citizen Projects

The focus of New Age Citizen, over the next 6 months, will be directed towards the following major projects:

(1) New Age Citizen News - Available and Free!

I've basically come to a few conclusions.  First, the time for merely talking about Cannabis Re-Legalization is over -- most of our efforts need to be directed at making it happen.  Secondly, their are a whole lot of other important issues that need to be addressed, outside of Drug Policy, in order for us to assure our children a tolerable government and a sustainable planet.

To this end I am extending to you my reading list in a format that you can take with you and read when you are away from your computer.  It is sort of a BLOG (I still don't understand how you get "web log" from this acronymn) in Word format.  Each document will contain articles that I feel are important and need to be addressed.  This way, when I start writing my own articles, on these subjects, you will have some additional background.

There are only two things you need to proceed:

(A) If you don't have Word you can get a free Word document reader from the following link:

http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/wd97vwr32.aspx

(B) A sample document to read

First you must have Word or the Word reader.  Then please note that the file name will give you some idea as to when the articles were assembled.  For example the file "AOL030701" was assembled around July 1st, 2003.  Here are two editions to get you started

http://www.newagecitizen.com/NAC_News/AOL030701.doc

http://www.newagecitizen.com/NAC_News/AOL030529.doc

(2) Promoting the "Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy (MRP)" Project

I'm still looking for additional feedback on the MRP, however, I have recieved overwhelming approval from the letters I have reviewed untill this point.  About the only only criticism has been that I should use the word "Ganja" in place of "Marijuana."  "Cannabis" is out because it would make it sound too much like the "Crap Project" (e.g., CRP Project).

Here are two introductory articles concerning MRP:

http://www.newagecitizen.com/editorial_on_the_marijuana_re.htm

http://www.newagecitizen.com/ReLegalization01.htm

In addition to feedback on MRP I would also be interested in any feedback on how to achieve MRP Policy objectives in the US (e.g., Constitutional Amendment, Eliminating Cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act etc.).

If you would like to provide feedback, on your impressions "Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy" (MRP), please send to  "newagecitizenx@comcast.net" and just type "MRP" into the subject field.   I will be sharing these viewpoints in future eLetters and at the NAC website.

Here is a the encapsulated description of the "Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy" (MRP):

"The most important aspect to any reform in Cannabis law needs to minimally allow non-commercial cultivation, by adults above the age of 18, to be done without any form of government taxation or interference."

The MRP Project will encompass all of the activities required to gain acceptance and implementation of the policy into law.  The first phase of the project is to get feedback from both activists and the general public.  This will be followed by getting feedback from some of the more noted activists and drug reform organizations.

(3) "New Age Citizen" Multi-Media CD: "The Complete Writings of Professor Hemp" (only $19.95 for a limited time -- normally $24.95)

This is the main screen of the "New Age Citizen" Multi-Media CD: "The Complete Writings of Professor Hemp" (only $19.95) - Limited time offer

I am proud to announce that the first Multi-Media CD "The Complete Writings of Professor Hemp" is available for only $19.95. For a limited time anyway.

For more information on the CD and ordering go here:

www.newagecitizen.com/Introduction.htm

The videos, essays and other materials should provide a comprehensive understanding of Professor Hemp's ideas on subjects such as Re-Legalization, Drug Reform, Jury Nullification and many other topics. Also included are essays by other luminaries within the Drug Reform community.  The entire 10 years collection of "New Age Citizen" Magazine is contained on this CD, as well as many other bonus materials.  You get to understand Professor Hemp's thinking on Drug Policy and NAC gets a little money to help end Cannabis (Marijuana, Ganga) Prohibition

(4) The first edition of the NAC eZine "New Age Citizen"

The first edition of the NAC eZine, "New Age Citizen",  is finally available (#001, February 2003). The initial cover story is titled: "Hope, Dope, And Marijuana: The Utter Stupidity, Irrelevance And Cruelty Of The Bush Administration's War On Cannabis".   This was an experiment that is now on hold, as I don't have the time to produce this on a periodic basis at this time.  Still, I you haven't read it you can read/print yourself a copy for free (It is in *.pdf format)

Notes from Professor Hemp (07/04/2003)

Isn't it odd that we can look back at the our past history (e.g., The Spanish Inquisition etc.) and immediately see how stupid we were. Yet today this "War on Some Plants" is allowed to continue, even as it erodes our liberties and takes more lives everyday. Yet successive administrations continue to throw hundred's of billions of your tax dollars at this "War" without ever making progress in their stated objective: stopping citizens from using a select groups of mind altering plants. It makes you wonder who is really doing all of these drugs, doesn't it? And how can our representatives nurse down their drugs - beer, wine, scotch, anti-depressants and other pharmaceutical drugs - while telling the rest of us we don't have similar rights, as adults, to enjoy a far less dangerous substance: Cannabis (also know as Marijuana)?
Since 1989 I have promoted a two-tier approach to ending this "War" by:

(1) Calling for the immediate Legalization of Marijuana (I prefer the terms Cannabis or Ganja) and
(2) taking a few years to completely overhaul our nation's broader drug policies.

NAC differs from most other Drug Reform Organizations in that we have never viewed "Medical Marijuana" or "Decriminalizing Marijuana" as sufficient solutions.
As I had predicted (as early as1989) changing attitudes, from a increasingly "drug aware" culture, would eventually demand changes in our Drug Laws. Recent polls, (see current eLetter), suggest a majority of the US voting population will support Marijuana Legalization no later than 2012 - just 9 years away.

If you would rather see Re-Legalization occur in an environment where you can grow and consume Cannabis without taxation, regulation or government interference we encourage your donations and financial support. I suggest becoming a NAC member by sending a donation of $19.95 or more. I will send you our NAC Disk Web which contains the complete contents of "New Age Patriot Magazine" in a format that is viewable from your browser. You don't need to be online, to access the NAC Disk Web, so you can view it anytime, from your desktop or laptop computer.

Your donations will then help us help you realize a future where you can grow your own Marijuana at home without taxation, regulation or government interference. This is NOT what most other organizations are shooting for and we think this is most unfortunate. Will you really be happy if the final solution looks like this?
A government regulated Cannabis market where:

(1) Individual cultivation is either prohibited or heavily regulated. This could still result in home growers going to prison.
(2) Individual users may have to seek physician permission or otherwise be tracked as "users."
(3) Federal and State taxation of Marijuana will still cost the consumer hundreds of dollars per ounce when you could grow it on your own for free. It is conceivable that the greed of federal and state agencies could actually increase the cost of legally purchased Marijuana from current "black market" prices. Currently, high grade "hydro", commands a price between $350 to $500 an ounce.

I hope not! Please support our efforts to allow a form of Marijuana Re-Legalization where personal cultivation is neither taxed or regulated by any government agencies. For more information please read the following articles regarding the Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy (MRP) Project:

Drug Czar John Pee-Water is making another tour in August:

I wrote the following comments to a local activist who was thinking about staging a protest when Drug Czar John Pee-Water comes to Detroit on August 2nd -- more details later.  The comments were intended to help her brain storm what might be contained in their press releases.  If anyone has specific information on his itenary please forward links to the information.  Also, if anyone else is planning similar protests please let us know ASAP.

Forty-one percent of respondents, of a recent Zogby poll,  agree that "the government should treat marijuana more or less the same way it treats alcohol: it should regulate marijuana, control it, tax it, and only make it illegal for children." That figure is up significantly from the 34 percent of Americans who said they supported legalizing marijuana in a 2001 USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll, and is almost three times as high as the percentage who supported legalization in 1972.

Couple this with the fact that support for outright Re-Legalization has grown from 20% in 1986 to 41% in 2003. If this trend continues, at the present pace (based on years 1986 and 2003) we will have a plurality in the year 2012. As citizens and activists we need to insist that  DPA, NORML -- and the many other drug reform organizations -- commit to total Re-Legalization no later than 2012 . Unfortunately that is the same year the Mayan Calendar predicts the end of the world. But should the Mayan's be wrong . . .

This will be the year (2012) that true Re-Legalization has a chance to take hold. So what does this have to do with Pee-Waters visit?

Use this fact, along with world trends, to mock Pee-Water as a hopelessly anachronistic throwback to the "Reefer Madness" view of Marijuana . . . which only the severely brain damaged accept any longer. Emphasize that it is only a matter of time before the critical mass of American opinion crushes these racist, drug war zealots once and for all. Now seriously . . .

(1) Focus on the entire Bush Administration and Congress
(2) Cite Bush's broken campaign promise to acknowledge state rights (e.g., Medical Marijuana Users in California)
(3) Cite volumes of data which refute Pee-Water's (and the Bush Administration's) primary position on Marijuana Policy:

** It's a Gateway Drug
** It's more dangerous than Alcohol, Tobacco and various prescriptive drugs
** Drugs (and not Prohibition) is the primary mechanism filling the coffers of Terrorist Organizations

(4) 163 Million Marijuana Smokers Can't be wrong:

Cannabis smokers 'number 163 million worldwide' 06/26/2003

 http://www.drbongs.com/news/archives/00000267.html

Source: Ananova 26 June 2003
A UN study has concluded 163 million people around the world smoke cannabis. The research has found the drug remains the most widely produced, trafficked and consumed illicit drug. Marijuana production also appears to be increasing.

(5) The Ed Rosenthal Kangaroo Court, with the support of the Bush Administration, exemplifies that "heavy handed", "compassionless" crap that we have learned to expect from this autocratic administration. Nothing to be too proud of you smarmy little smirking chimp!

(6) Protest Sign Ideas

"Smusch the Bush and Re-Legalize Marijuana for American Adults."
/* Smusch is a nice way of saying "crush with extreme prejudice" */
"Make Bush Drink Pee-Water Unless he Allows Medical Access to Marijuana"

(7) Insist that the laws involving Marijuana use should be in proportion to danger it poses to society. As such Marijuana should be taken off the Controlled Substances Act and treated as/less seriously than beer. This leads the way to considering the Marijuana Re-Legalization Policy (MRP) as a final destination for Ganja law worldwide. [See www.newagecitizen.com for more info]

(8) George Bush's Father (Number 41) was complicit in massive narcotics trafficking as Vice President in the Reagan Administration It's about time this story gets out anyway.

Then we can tell the reporters:

"In the meantime we are not waiting for drug reform in the States. Instead we will merely cross over to Windsor to enjoy our ganja and bide our time until the demographic shift approaches in the year 2012. Then we will give no quarter to those (e.g., Biden . . . ) that have disingenuously supported this failed social experiment that we know as the Drug War. Off with their incumbencies!"

Yours in Freedom,

Professor Hemp
