"The Ride So Far"

A musical anthem for the immediate Re-Legalization of Marijuana "Self Cultivation" under the MERP Model.

This is my way of telling NORML, MPP, DPA and our corporately controlled government that we won't accept any form of prohibition on personal cultivation of Marijuana. It is "our" plant. It was put here for the benefit of ... not all these "greedsters" that want to profit by monopolizing the production and distribution of Marijuana. "Grow your own" should ALWAYS remain an option for "the People."

The Ride So Far
Words and Music by Bruce W. Cain
Copyright 2009

See you driving in you car
How you like the drive so far babe?
Will you travel very far?
Or will the highway fade before your eyes?

You drive around so aimlessly
Where was it you hoped to be now?
Did you reach your destiny?
Are you where you hoped to be today?

Chorus:

There must be a better way than this
We need to talk about it
They won't even let us grow a weed
It's time to shout about it

Weed it just a symbol now
Of those freedoms I hold sacred
I wear this leaf to tell you now
We're here to take our freedoms back today

And all of us is all we need
Peace on Earth is what we pray for
The love you get will far exceed
All the love you'll ever give away

Refrain:

Come on, Come on, Come on baby
Come on down and join the circle
Come on little Goddess let's get high

Come on, Come on, Come on baby
Come on down and join the circle
Come on everybody let's get high

let's get high

Bruce Cain discusses "The Ride So Far"

I wrote this song as an anthem to Marijuana Consumers who demand the sacred, inalienable right to "grow their own" Marijuana without any form of taxation or regulation.

Although the legalization of Marijuana is a primary theme, within this song, it is really only a metaphor for the uncertainty with which we all find ourselves today.

* 20 Million Americans are now underemployed or unemployed.
* 14 million American families could loose their homes to foreclosure in the next 12 months.

All the while President Obama continues to funnel money into the pockets of the very Banksters that caused the problem, in the first place, by offshoring our jobs and our factories. And all the while President Obama continues to do nothing of significance for the American People. And without immediate intervention the social fabric of this nation continues to fray.   Like Nero he is shooting baskets while American is burning to the ground.

Then there is the War in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why are we even there still? Oh, I forgot, it is to control the oil and natural gas.

President Karzai -- the "Obama backed" President of Afghanistan -- has a brother who is one of the largest Opium Drug Lords in Afghanistan. And a recent "New York Times" article discloses that he has been on the CIA payroll for over 10 years. Yet Obama still supports a policy of Marijuana Prohibition where over 800,000 Marijuana consumers are arrested for the mere position of a joint. How can you support a Heroin "Drug Lord" -- whose profits fund Islamic Terrorists and US Covert Military Budgets -- and then turn around and bust an American Citizen for an ounce of Marijuana?

So that is the focus of the chorus:

"There must be a better way than this
We need to talk about it
They won't even let us grow a weed
It's time to shout about it"

The chorus is generally observing that the current "globalist" economic path, which we are currently on, is not working. And as an example of what is not working I focus on the fact that Adult Americans are still unable to grow their own Marijuana when it is one of the safest and most beneficial plants in the history of human civilization. But I'm saying much more than that. I am exposing the lunacy of the elite, in their attempts to "tax and regulate" Marijuana while continuing to prohibit Adult Americans from simply "growing their own" -- without the encumbrances of tax, regulation or limits on the number of plants an individual can grow. There is simply no good reason for this other than to feed the greed of those that hope to profit by continuing to prohibit "self cultivation."  And these "greedsters" include Police, Attorneys, the Prison Industrial Complex, the Pharmaceutical Industrial Complex, the Military Industrial Complex and all other groups and organizations that profit from the continuing prohibition against Marijuana "Self Cultivation."

Again I am using Marijuana Re-Legalization as a metaphor and example of a sensible solution that neither Obama or our Congressional Representatives will  support.   Yet there is not doubt that legalizing Marijuana "self cultivation" would immediately destroy the Drug Cartels, provide free medicine to the sick and stop the authorities from kicking in your door at 3:00 AM.  Instead it appears that Obama is intent on restricting "self cultivation" in order to create a monopoly of "Government Marijuana Dispensaries" so they can continue to charge $300 to $500 an ounce for something we could "grow our own" for free.

You can learn much more of the details of this by visiting MERP Headquarters and watching the many videos and reading the many articles that expand on the rational and strategy for implementing "self cultivation" through the MERP Model of Marijuana Re-Legalization.

http://www.newagecitizen.com/MERP.htm

So the larger metaphor is that the "status quo" always seems to resist logical changes in policies in order to benefit the elite.   In the case of Marijuana the resistance comes from all of those interests that continue to benefit from prohibition at the expense of the majority of Americans who now want Marijuana Legalized.

The refrain is also worth some commentary:

Come on, Come on, Come on baby
Come on down and join the circle
Come on little Goddess let's get high

Come on, Come on, Come on baby
Come on down and join the circle
Come on everybody let's get high

let's get high

First, please no accusations of sexism for using the word "baby."  There are so many songs that use this term that it would be impossible to provide a complete list.

The use of the term "goddess" is also quite intentional.  All mystical traditions (Yoga, Gnosticism, Buddhism, Tantrism etc.) embrace the concept of the Goddess as a wise caretaker for the planet, as well as a symbol of truth, enlightenment, knowledge, freedom and liberty.   Contrast this with literalist traditions (organized religions, totalitarian governments) that have no respect for the planet they live on, nor the rights and liberties of the masses.

"Getting high."  The mystical traditions have always understood how sex, drugs and music nourish the soul and improve the spirit.  And -- provided that our behavior doesn't interfere with the rights or safety of others -- mystics see nothing wrong with getting high.  The literalists, on the other hand, seem to have an aversion to anyone having any fun through the use of sex, drugs, or music, for the purpose of "getting high."

Of course another connotation of "getting high" is the idea of attaining enlightenment: seeing things from a more universal perspective.  In fact the term "Apocalypse" means the "lifting of the veil" or exposing unseen truths.  So the lyrics are both saying it is OK to get high as well as a hope that people will wake up to see how disastrous the current global socio-economic paradigm really is at the moment.   And finally when I say "join the circle" I am encouraging individuals to band together in order to work toward positive, sustainable changes in our laws and culture.  And legalizing Marijuana would be a great first "baby step" toward that end.

Lisa "Dinga" Ling provides the typical corporate media propaganda.  As with coverage by other national "reporters" (Lou Dobbs, Anderson Cooper etc.)  this film refuses to address the fact that without prohibition we could all grow our Marijuana for free and the "greater good" would immediately be served.  The only thing that makes an ounce of Marijuana worth $300 to $500 an ounce is the fact that is is still illegal.  Once legal we can all grow it for free outside or for about $25 and ounce under lights indoors.

Leave it to NORML to hang themselves.  This contains links to a plethora of "tax and regulate" media propaganda.  I challenge you to find anything in any of these presentations that talks about adult Americans being able to "grow their own."

Does Marijuana Legalization Weaken the Drug War?

Ex Drug Czar gets trounced on a recent Lou Dobbs show.  Still Lou has refused to have me on his show to voice the support for untaxed, unregulated "self cultivation" supported by Jack Herer, myself and thousands of other activists and Marijuana consumers.  The propaganda machine just won't allow an honest debate . . . so far.
